I don't yet know what to write here, or why I am even on this website. 08/29/06

I have a friend, who will remain anonymous for now, that is all about getting people to vote. While I do not share her zeal, I have to admit she has brought to my attention some issues here in Arizona. I won't deny the fact that I was born a non-confortmist, and that my distaste for our Governing bodies at times rests upon my soul like a festering boil. Generally, my attentions are diverted to more important things like World of Warcraft. But they are no longer...

This friend of mine recently brought to my attention how bad of an idea the "Protect Marriage" initiative is for Arizona. So I started looking more into it and came across a couple things that bothered me. I mean first off, she made it seems like a war between the Christians and the Gay Community, when I don’t know if that is entirely accurate. No doubt when talking about protecting the “Sanctity of Marriage” you know, you are doing it for the 50% of the population that doesn’t get divorced… A prop like that will easily get a lot of support in a Red state like Arizona, the Latter day Saints will hit the polls in force. Whether you believe it is a Sin or not, I don’t see what a purpose a huge push by the Vatican to take away Gays Health Insurance would serve, thus It made me wonder who was REALLY behind the campaign.

Now let me back-track, this is not me trying to show my support for the gay community, my indifference there is unparalleled, but there is a 2nd part to The Amendment that could potentially affect me and others who live with a girlfriend.

From the “Protect Marriage Arizona” website:

4. ARTICLE XXX. MARRIAGE
5. TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT MARRIAGE IN THIS
6. STATE, ONLY A UNION BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE
7. WOMAN SHALL BE VALID OR RECOGNIZED AS A
8. MARRIAGE BY THIS STATE OR ITS POLITICAL
9. SUBDIVISIONS AND NO LEGAL STATUS FOR UNMARRIED
10. PERSONS SHALL BE CREATED OR RECOGNIZED BY THIS
11. STATE OR ITS POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS THAT IS SIMILAR
12. TO THAT OF MARRIAGE.

Notice the highlighted part. It doesn’t even have anything to do with Gay people. So I know right now if I wanted to I can get health Insurance for my Girlfriend through my place of business, I think she has some but if she wanted, I could get her under my plan at least with how the Law Currently stands.

My insurance coverage states this:

“Depending on your state's regulations, you may not be able to cover your domestic partner under some plans.”

So I would think this amendment would prevent me from getting my GF Insurance if I wanted to, thus it makes me wonder who is behind “Protect Marriage Arizona”. It’s quaint to think was put together by concerned Christians from our Community, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it was put together by people in the Insurance Industry. As much as Bush and the Conservative right would have you believe that Policy is dictated by the God Fearing citizens, it’s much more likely that this particular Amendment is being dictated by the True God of Politics...Money.

What I want to know:

What kind of organization is Protect Marriage Arizona?

How are they recognized by the IRS?

You can make a direct contribution to them via their website :
http://www.protectmarriageaz.com/ are they legally responsible to make their financial statements available to the public?

It lists two names Lynn Stanley as the chairman of the initiative and yesterday it listed Bob Semple as the Treasurer, but for some reason his name is not on the website today… I tried to Google these people but did not come up with much.

Ultimately, I really don’t care if this Initiative passes or not. I just think it would be fun to try and prove my little conspiracy theory, of course, as long as I can prove it from behind my computer and I don’t actually have to go out and do anythingJ. That and if it did end up being the case maybe non-fanatical regular everyday Catholics like myself could get some slack.

I decided to make a blog about this.

(Some of what I typed above came from an e-mail I sent to one of my Uncles.)

I am way behind on the whole Blog trend. In fact I typically have an aversion established scenes, so I don't know why I am doing this really. Maybe becasue my job is really boring and I needed something to to pass a half hour. Of course there is also my instatiable appetite for Discourse and Debate. In the past I would usually get my fix on certain web forums, but I think now I want to be the moderator for a change.
